Started the day with breakfast at our hotel, the Hotel Ramprataph Place, which is really cute.
After breakfast we headed off with Lucky and another guide. The first stop was a park where really the only thing to see is a big statue of this horse, Chetak. They are fairly obsessed with this horse here. You see his name everywhere…(we call him Tupac).
I guess the story goes something like the king was riding Tupac, I mean Chetak who, although wounded, lept across a river to save the king. Ya, wow. Anyways, we didn’t spend a lot of time there. Sorry Tupac.
Next up was a lovely garden called Saheliyon-ki-bari. This garden was built for the ladies of the royal court to come and escape the heat. Many lovely water fountains.
It’s been quite well maintained, but you can only imagine how it must have looked in its heyday.
After the gardens we headed over to the Udaipur City Palace. Lots to see, including a great view of Lake Pichola…I could never describe it all, please check out the pictures in the Udaipur photo set
Jeff and I especially liked the portraits of all the Royal family…and Bob.
After our tour we were taken to a place where they do miniature paintings (there were lots in the Palace). It was pretty interesting and we all ended up buying something. I got a neat Romeo and Juliet painting done on camel bone, I like it a lot. Because I am a big sucker.
In the shop the guy kept trying to sell us more and more pieces. To get out of there, Jeff said “we should go, we want to get some lunch” and I added “Ya, I’m starving…”
The guy looks at me and goes “…starving?” and kind of looks me up and down with a questioning look on his face. Ok, well, I guess that might be a slight exaggeration, especially for this neck of the woods. But…shut the hell up anyways.
For dinner we went to Ambrai, which was fabulous. You couldn’t ask for a prettier view of the lake and lake palace and the food was wonderful, as was the beer. A really, really nice day again.
