copy of email sent during trip to Thailand, December 2004 - January 2005

Happy New Year! Sorry I haven’t replied to some of your emails in my hotmail address - for some reason (maybe it’s just the computers here?) I can read them but I can’t reply (says “error on page” - whaddaya think Candice?? Just kidding).

I’m also guessing at email addresses again, I hope I got everyone. I really should put them in this email, it’s actually been more useful than the hotmail one….and I know of few of you didn’t even get the emails I sent from the hotmail!! grrrr…..

Anyways…..heading home soon - early Friday morning, which will be late Thursday afternoon in Vancouver. Kinda looking forward to coming home. I’m sure I’ll wish I was somewhere warm when I get home, but more than a day or two in Bangkok is more than enough for anyone, and we’ve ended up spending the majority of the vacation here - bummer. But I’m not complaining, there are worse places to be, like in the hospital or out in the ocean…

This city is just gross after a few days though. I’ve been in and out of Bangkok about 4 times now and EVERY TIME I get sick. The polution is just horrible. I have a wicked cold, so I’m glad to have the week off when I get home. Went on a boat tour around the river yesterday nd then went out for drinks with my brother. Got pretty “happy” at the bus bar.

Tonight I think well check out a concert at a park down the street, its a benefit for disaster relief.

At the top of Khoa San Road (near where we’re staying) there are pages & pages & pages of paper listing names and some pictures of missing people. It is so sad, it really makes you realize how many people are missing when you see it like that. And to think Thailand was one of the lesser effected countries - yikes. They also have a sign up by a booklet saying “Pictures of unidentified dead people - no children looking please” Ya, I’ll not be looking either…glad I don’t have to.

You also get handed flyers from people looking for other people. It is really sad because after this time, you really do think that it’s pretty hopeless that anyone will be found alive, but if it was someone I loved, I guess I’d keep looking & looking too.  And I heard they found a baby the other day in Thailand!! Like 6 days after! Some good news anyways.

Well, I think it’s Chang O’Clock so I’ll go get some cold ones!
